BE THE LIGHT

Let me introduce you to Ami and Aubrey. These two women are social workers at two cancer centers here in Colorado. They have been distributing our encouragement bags almost right from the beginning of Be Still and Know Inc. We have developed a great relationship with them and they both feel comfortable enough with me that when they are running out of bags to give their patients, they will email me to ask for more rather than waiting for me to send them a check-in note to find out if they need additional bags.

A while back when I delivered bags to one of these cancer centers, I was in for a surprise. Ami handed me a gift bag which I later opened and saw a wonderfully fragranced candle with a note from her and Aubrey. The note says, “Kim, your light shines bright. Thank you for making a difference in so many lives!” Ami and Aubrey can’t say enough about the positive impact we are having on their patients. Ami then told me a story about how the encouragement bags are a light to their patients. She had recently given a bag (with the Spanish version of 50 Days of Hope – the book that is in the bags) to a Spanish speaking woman who has cancer. Not only does this woman have cancer, but her daughter had passed away from cancer a few months prior to my visit. When Ami gave her the bag, she began crying because she was so touched to receive this from someone who cares about those going through cancer but was from someone she has never met.

As Jesus said in Matthew 5:14a: “You are the light of the world.”

SPONSORSHIP

Recently Be Still and Know Inc. received the opportunity for a sponsorship with Inontime, a company operating out of West Michigan. With this sponsorship, we are looking at the possibility of getting bags into a cancer center where we haven’t previously distributed the bags. We are grateful that Inontime sees our vision of giving hope and encouragement to cancer patients.

Do you work for a company that has a charitable foundation? Do you think they may be interested in partnering with a specific oncology clinic to make their giving more “real” or “closer to home”? Would they be interested in partnering with a nonprofit with a proven track record? If so, we would love to explore how we can work together.

quote from an encouragement bag recipient

“Being a recipient of one of your packages from the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center, I am compelled to write and say thank you for your kindness and generosity. Everything in the bag is meaningful and helpful. What a blessing you are. May you find God’s favor in everything you do.”

Approximate number of bags distributed to date: 4,347

If you know of someone who has been diagnosed with cancer, is under palliative/hospice care due to cancer, or you know of a caregiver who can use encouragement and you would like to send a bag, go to our website to place an order.
